Prior to the formation of NueLeaf, Mr. Cimino was involved in several different business ventures.
In 2002, Mr. Cimino joined Athena Capital Partners, Inc., a boutique investment bank that specialized in debt and equity capital raises and mergers and acquisitions. During the majority of his tenure with Athena, he was the CEO and a major shareholder. Athena ceased operations in 2011.
During 2008 and 2009, Mr. Cimino led two Chapter 11 cases where Athena acted as court appointed Financial Advisor, Investment Banker and Chapter 11 Liquidating Trustee. He also participated in and led the closing of approximately 20 capital raise and merger and acquisition transactions with a transaction value of approximately $180.0 million during his 9 years with Athena.
From 2002 through 2008, Mr. Cimino also served as CFO and COO for a real estate development company involved in residential land development and commercial/mixed use projects. Mr. Cimino was involved in all operations of this company and led capital raises of approximately $100.0 million of debt and equity. He also served as CFO and COO and board member of a pharmaceutical company. Mr. Cimino was involved in all operational facets of building this start up pharmaceutical company including raising approximately $4.0 million in equity. Mr. Cimino resigned his position with this company in March of 2008. He also served as CFO and board member of a medical device company. In addition to his CFO and board responsibilities, he was actively involved in various capital raise efforts that generated approximately $4.0 million in equity for this medical device company. He resigned his operating and board positions in December of 2010.
Prior to 2002, he was a Director with Ernst & Young Capital Advisors, an international investment bank. During his tenure with E&Y Capital Advisors, Mr. Cimino participated in and led capital raise, merger and acquisition and restructuring transactions. From 1995 to 2000, Mr. Cimino was with Quorum Health Resources, LLC (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quorum Health Group which was a publicly traded hospital company with revenues of $1.5 billion with operations throughout the US) where he served as part of the senior management team. As head of an operating division, he provided transaction, consulting and operating services to healthcare providers throughout the US. Mr. Cimino began his professional career in 1978 in public accounting with Grant Thornton. He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida in 1980. Mr. Cimino joined Ernst & Young in 1983 where he was a member of the audit staff, tax staff, E&Y’s Entrepreneurial Services Group and Healthcare Industry Group. He left public accounting in 1995 to join Quorum. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Florida. Over his 30 year professional career, Mr. Cimino has been active in a varietyof professional, civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Cimino has spoken nationally on a variety of business topics.
